With the completion of the Airside Center an architectural highlight was created at Zurich Airport. The light-filled hall connects the terminals A and B. The space frame construction with a length of 240 m and a width of 50 m is supported on the west side with 24 inward inclining and up to 17 m long columns, which also serve as a horizontal stabilizer. The east side is supported on 27 bearings plates which allow for + / – 200 mm horizontal movement. The white roof construction, which slopes in all directions, seems to float above your head. With 14,000 different steel parts, of which 3,000 were different shaped steel pipes, this project was one of the most demanding projects in Tuchschmid’s history.
